How we help you
The School is designed to offer you the most up to date resources, the most outstanding programme leaders and the most comprehensive programme available in arts fundraising. The six days are deeply practical, and we’ll use a range of approaches to support your learning. You can expect to take part in:
- Case studies: we’ll look at how real organisations have succeeded, and failed, using different approaches- helping you choose what’s best for you.
- Practical exercises: every session is reinforced by practical exercises and activities to allow you to apply the learning to your own situation straight away.
- Reflection: even in a packed six days we make sure you have a chance to reflect on what you’ve relearned and its implications for your work.
- Small group work: a key part of the learning comes from connecting to others and their ideas- the days are packed with short and long group exercises.
- High level input: some of the UK’s leading fundraisers will offer you insight and ideas based on their experience.
10 ways you'll benefit
Expert tuition from the field’s leaders
The School is led by three of the country’s leading fundraising consultants who have over 50 years of extensive experience between them in both UK and international arts fundraising. The consultants are available throughout the week, inside and outside of the formal sessions, for further information and consultation.
Unique research-based approach
The programme is based on detailed research on how funds are allocated and studies on the psychology and sociology of donors. We’ll share a range of research studies over the six days that will help you locate your great ideas in practical reality. All of this research will be made available to you on a data stick to take away and use as a continuing source of reference.
High level personal coaching
You’ll have the chance for you to present Dragon’s Den-style to another team acting as corporate sponsors using a case study you’ve prepared. The whole pitch is videoed and you then receive private feedback from a skilled =mc coach as you review your presentation. The result is you’ll have a clear idea on how to make the impact you want when pitching for money.
Practical solutions specifically for you
You’ll spend time working specifically on the challenges that affect you and your organisation. At the end of the School you’ll leave with an action plan to put into place immediately on your return to work.
New levels of technical skills
All the ‘how tos’ you need for successful fundraising will be explored – from designing your overall strategy to writing a trust proposal, from running a big gift campaign to building your supporter base.
Greater understanding of funding sources available
The current trends and sources in fundraising in the arts will be examined – and how you can effectively exploit them!
Key lessons from case studies
You’ll be introduced to the ingredients of successful strategies adopted by a range of organisations that have attended the School. You’ll also learn to avoid common pitfalls and draw out key lessons for the future.
A network of support
During the week, you’ll work closely and share experiences with fellow participants to build up your skills and confidence. You’ll learn valuable lessons from each other’s experiences and make great friends and useful contacts at the same time.
Extensive fundraising library resources
=mc’s extensive fundraising reference library, including databases of major fundgivers and all the key fundraising texts from the UK, Europe and the US, will be available to you throughout the week.
You’ll receive a 350-page workbook containing everything covered during the school – and more. With step-by-step guides, detailed case notes, planning charts and background material, this manual will contribute to your continued success long after the programme has finished.
Tailored to meet your needs
“I now recommend the School to everyone I meet. It's the only course I've attended where I've been completely confident to put what I've learnt into practice as soon as I returned to the office.”Tamsin Thomas,

The school isn’t just about abstract fundraising concepts – it’s deeply practical.
The models and approaches are relevant to your organisation and we’ll show you how to best use them to overcome challenges and build on opportunities. By building your strategy and portfolio as you go along, you leave the School with a well-developed action plan to put into place on your return to work.
A key learning element of the School is a comprehensive 350 page workbook and a range of online resources. We cover both the programme content and additional information to help you consolidate your learning in the weeks, months and even years to come. During the School you have access to our extensive fundraising reference library – including databases of major fundgivers and key fundraising texts from the UK, USA and Europe.
We use a mixture of approaches including expert presentations, group exercises and activities, coaching, case studies and online research opportunities, plus we give you time to read and reflect. The range of approaches guarantees you learn and retain a huge amount in a relatively short period of time.
